Gear selector cable
- On the transmission side of the drive axle unit, the selector lever cable is connected to the ball on the lever located on the selector shaft lever. The connection is made via the transmission range sensor.
- The cable supports are first attached to the gearbox housing and secondarily to the bracket on the gear lever.
- The gear selector cable adjuster is located on the cable sheath on the gearbox side in the block with the drive axle.
- From the side of the gear selector lever, the cable is clamped on the ball.

Regulator in unlocked position; to lock, turn in the direction of the arrow.
- The quick-release selector cable fastener allows the cable to be adjusted relative to the guide.
- Adjustment is required if the transaxle or selector lever has been removed if the engine does not start in position "R" And "N", if there are problems with shift quality or if the type of derailleur latches is incorrect.
To adjust the selector lever cable, the selector lever must be in the "D".
First, unlock the selector lever cable adjuster.
- To be sure that the transaxle in the block with the leading axle is in position "D", disconnect the cable from the shift shaft lever, shift the gearbox in the block with the drive axle to the position "D" and reconnect the cable to the shift shaft lever.
- The gear selector cable must not be loaded. He shouldn't eat.
The selector lever cable is blocked by turning the cable adjuster after reconfirming that the shift mechanism is in the "D".
Gear selector
Gear selector positions
P | parking | To keep the car stationary. The engine can be started. Caution: Engage this gear only when the vehicle is stationary (the automatic transmission in the block with the leading axle will be blocked. This gear should be used when working on a vehicle with the engine running). The gear selector can be moved out of position "R", if the ignition switch is in position "II" and the brake pedal is depressed. In an emergency (battery discharge) The gear lever can be unlocked manually - see "Gear selector lock". |
R | Reverse | Engage this gear only when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling. |
N | Neutral gear | The engine can be started - torque is not transmitted to the drive wheels. |
D | Gears 1st to 4th (with overdrive) | Position for normal movement. All four gears are electronically engaged. When the vehicle is stationary, this mode is automatically disabled. For information on driving with or without overdrive, see chap. "Spring loaded overdrive button". |
D | Gears 1st to 3rd (without overdrive) | Position for normal driving, but without 4th gear. For information on driving with or without overdrive, see Ch. "Spring loaded overdrive button". |
2 | 2nd gear | The automatic transaxle stays in second gear. |
1 | 1st gear | The automatic transmission remains in first gear. |
Electromagnet for locking the gear selector lever
Pos. | Spare Part No | Name |
1 | Electromagnet | |
2 | Locking pin | |
3 | Manual release mechanism |
Location
The selector lever lock solenoid is located on the selector lever bracket.
When the ignition is turned on, the manual shift lock solenoid is activated by depressing the brake pedal (stoplight switch signal). This causes the locking pin to retract and the manual gear selector lever can thus be moved out of position "R".
Functioning
Replacement function
NOTE: If you select the range again "R", the gear selector will also be locked again.
If there is no signal from the brake pedal due to a malfunction, manual unlocking is possible.
To do this, remove the cover of the lock release mechanism and insert a suitable object (ignition) into the hole so that the manual gear selector lever can be moved out of position "R".
Overdrive switch (O/D)
The O/D switch is located on the side of the gear selector.
The O/D switch sends a signal to the PCM to select or deselect 4th gear when the gear selector is in the "D".
The O/D switch signal is used to perform the following functions:
- as an input to transmit the desire of the PCM driver,
- to display the desire of the driver using the O/D indicator lamp on the instrument panel.
There is no substitute signal for the O/D switch. If the switch is faulty, it is always possible to shift into 4th gear with the manual gear selector in position "D".
O/D indicator lamp
The O/D warning lamp is located on the instrument panel. This is a green lamp.
The O/D warning light is controlled by the O/D switch located on the gear selector. It informs the driver that the transmission control is blocking shifting to 4th gear.
Spring-loaded gear selector button
To move the gear selector out of park, turn the ignition switch to the "II", depress the brake pedal and press the lever lock release button.
The spring-loaded side button should also be pressed if the lever is moved:
- out of position "N" And "D" into position "2" And "1"
- out of position "1", "2", "D" And "N" into position "R" And "R"
- out of position "R" into position "R"
Control lamp of the power unit
Location
The control lamp of the power unit is located on the instrument panel. This is an orange lamp.
Purpose
Turning it on informs the driver that the transmission control has switched to an emergency operating program, or that the transmission fluid temperature is too high.
