Gear selector lever cable

• On the gearbox side of the block with the drive axle, the cable of the gear selector lever is connected to the ball on the lever located on the shift shaft lever. The connection is made through the gearbox range sensor.
• The cable supports are first attached to the gearbox housing and secondly to the bracket on the gear selector lever.
• The gear selector lever cable adjuster is located on the cable housing on the gearbox side in the block with the drive axle.
• On the gear selector lever side, the cable is clamped onto the ball.

• The quick-release gear selector cable attachment allows the cable to be adjusted relative to the guide.
• Adjustment is required if the transaxle or gear selector lever has been removed, if the engine does not start in the "P" and "N" positions, if there are problems with the quality of gear shifting, or if the type of shifter pawls is incorrect.

To adjust the gear selector lever cable, the gear selector lever must be in the "D" position.





First, unlock the gear selector lever cable adjuster.

• To ensure that the transaxle is in the "D" position, disconnect the cable from the shift shaft lever, shift the transaxle to the "D" position, and reconnect the cable to the shift shaft lever.
• The gear selector lever cable must not be loaded. It must not stick.

The gear selector lever cable is locked by turning the cable adjuster after reconfirming that the shift mechanism is in the "D" position.

P	Parking	To keep the vehicle stationary. The engine can be started. Caution: Only engage this gear when the vehicle is stationary (the automatic transmission in the transaxle will be locked. This gear should be used when working on the vehicle with the engine running). The gear selector lever can be moved out of position "P" if the ignition switch is in position "II" and the brake pedal is depressed. In an emergency (discharged battery), the gear selector lever can be unlocked manually - see "Lock the gear selector lever".
R	Reverse	Engage this gear only when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is idling.
N	Neutral gear	The engine can be started - torque is not transmitted to the drive wheels.
D	Gears 1-4 (with overdrive)	Position for normal driving. All four gears are engaged electronically. When the vehicle is stationary, this mode is automatically locked. For information on driving with or without overdrive, see the chapter "Spring-loaded overdrive button".
D	Gears 1-3 (no overdrive)	Position for normal driving, but without 4th gear. For information on driving with or without overdrive, see chapter "Spring-loaded overdrive button".
2	2nd gear	The automatic transmission in the block with the drive axle remains in second gear.
1	1st gear	The automatic transmission remains in first gear.

Location

The gear selector lever shift lock solenoid is located on the gear selector lever bracket.

When the ignition is switched on, the manual gearshift lever lock solenoid is activated by pressing the brake pedal (signal from the brake light switch). This causes the locking pin to retract, and thus the manual gearshift lever can be moved out of the "P" position.

NOTE: If you select the "P" range again, the gear selector lever will also be locked again.

If, due to malfunction, no signal is received from the brake pedal, manual release of the lock is possible.



To do this, remove the lock release mechanism cover and insert a suitable object (ignition key) into the hole so that the manual gear selector lever can be moved out of the "P" position.

Overdrive (O/D) switch

The O/D switch is located on the side of the gear selector lever.

The O/D switch sends a signal to the PCM to select or deselect 4th gear when the shift lever is in the "D" position.

The O/D switch signal is used to perform the following functions:

• as an input signal for transmitting the driver's desire to the RCM,
• to display the driver's wishes using the O/D indicator lamp on the instrument panel.

There is no substitute signal for the O/D switch. If the switch is faulty, it is always possible to shift to 4th gear with the manual gear selector lever in the "D" position.

O/D indicator light

The O/D indicator light is located on the instrument panel. It is a green light.



The O/D indicator lamp is controlled by the O/D switch located on the gear selector lever. It informs the driver that the transmission control is blocking the shift to 4th gear.

To move the gear selector lever out of the park position, turn the ignition switch to position "II", press the brake pedal and press the lever lock release button.

The spring-loaded side button should also be pressed if the lever is moved:

• from position "N" and "D" to position "2" and "1"
• from position "1", "2", "D" and "N" to position "R" and "P"
• from position "R" to position "P"

Powertrain control lamp

Location

The powertrain control lamp is located on the instrument panel. It is an orange lamp.

Purpose

When it is turned on, it informs the driver that the transmission control has switched to the emergency operating program or that the transmission fluid temperature is too high.
