Power steering pump (gasoline, up to 8/94)

            0

When replenishing or filling the hydraulic system, use only automatic transmission fluid (AND THOSE), compliant with FORD specification ESPM-2C-166H.

Attention: Do not shake the automatic transmission fluid, as it will this leads to the formation of air bubbles in it.

Withdrawal

Disconnect ground wire (-) battery.

Caution: Disconnecting the battery will erase the contents of the electronic memories, such as engine trouble codes or radio codes. Before switching off, also read the instructions in chapter "Removing and installing the battery".

Place a container under the power steering pump to drain the transmission fluid.

Cover the alternator with sheet metal or plastic wrap to prevent transmission fluid from penetrating into its housing.

Loosen the clamp, remove the return hose and drain the transmission fluid into a suitable container.

Unscrew the hollow bolt and disconnect the pressure line from the power steering pump.

Loosen the bolts securing the V-belt pulley at the pump, for which the V-belt is compressed and held to prevent the pulley from turning.

Remove the V-belt see p. 29.

Loosen the V-belt pulley bolts and remove the pulley.

Unscrew bolts -arrows- for power steering pump on bracket. For clarity, the pump is shown in the removed state in the figure.

Remove the power steering pump.

Installation

Attach the power steering pump and tighten the mounting bolts to 25 Nm.

Attach the V-belt pulley to the pump and hand-tighten the mounting bolts.

Connect the liquid return hose to the compensation tank to the pump and secure it with a clamp.

Connect the discharge line to the pump and tighten the banjo bolt to 30 Nm.

Install and tighten the V-belt, see p. 29.

Tighten the V-belt pulley pump bolts to 10 Nm.

Remove sheet metal or plastic wrap from the generator.

Fill the expansion tank up to the MAX mark with new, clean transmission fluid without air bubbles.

Attention: To avoid the formation of air bubbles, pour the transmission fluid slowly.

Connect ground wire (-) battery.

If available, set the clock and enter the anti-theft code for the radio.

Remove air from the power steering hydraulic drive.
