The battery is located on the left side of the engine compartment.
Caution: Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is off, otherwise the injection system control unit will be damaged.
Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of the electronic storage devices listed below are erased.
In the injection system control unit, the data on the engine operating parameters recorded as a result of the so-called "learning" are erased. This could be, for example, the engine-specific parameters for regulating the crankshaft speed at idle. Therefore, after the battery is reconnected, disturbances in the vehicle's dynamic properties (shocks, misfiring during acceleration or uneven idling) may occur for a short time.
Any fault codes for the injection and ignition systems that may have been recorded in the memory devices are erased.
The radio's anti-theft code and settings for transmitting stations are erased. As a rule, only serially installed radio receivers have an anti-theft code. If the code is unknown, the radio can only be reconnected at a FORD service station. Therefore, before disconnecting the battery, you should make sure that you have the anti-theft code for the radio.
The driver's door electric window must be reinstalled after the battery has been installed.
Removal
Turn off the ignition and vehicle lighting. This prevents damage to electronic control units (e.g. engine control unit).
Open the hood of the engine compartment. The battery is located on the passenger side next to the driver behind the shock absorber arch.
If present, unscrew the fastener and remove the battery cover.
First, disconnect the battery ground wire (straight terminal), then the positive terminal wire (cross terminal). The battery terminals are imprinted with (+) and (-) signs.
Unscrew nut "2" and remove clamp "1".
Loosen the retaining plate mounting bolt and remove the plate. The retaining plate is located at the base of the battery.
Remove the battery.
Safety instructions: The battery contains toxic substances that must not be disposed of with household waste. Dispose of the old battery at a special waste collection point. District and city authorities provide information on the nearest collection points.
Installation
Before installing the battery, clean its terminals until they shine. A brass wire brush is suitable for this operation. To prevent corrosion, apply a special acid-resistant grease to both terminals, such as BOSCH terminal grease.
Insert the battery.
Screw in the retaining plate mounting bolt and do not tighten it too much.
Be careful not to tighten the clamp too much.
Connect the positive wire to the positive pole (+) of the battery, then the ground wire to the negative pole (-).
Caution: If the battery is connected incorrectly, significant damage to the generator and electrical system may occur.
Place and screw on the plastic lid.
If necessary, re-tune the radio. Set the clock.
Vehicle with electric windows: Install the electric window lifter in the driver's door. If the window lifter/window glass has been removed or the battery has been disconnected, the control unit must "learn" the position of the window glass again. To do this, open the window glass completely via the window lifter switch and hold the switch in the window glass opening position for at least one second. Then close the window glass completely and hold the switch in the closing position again for at least one second. If this is not done, the following functions may be impaired: opening/closing by briefly pressing the switch, as well as stopping/opening when increased resistance occurs (pinch protection function).
