Removal and installation of a cable of a manual brake

Withdrawal



Mark the position of both rear wheels on the hubs with paint. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel can be installed again in its original position.

With the car standing on the platform, loosen the wheel nuts.

Raise the rear of the vehicle on jack stands.

Remove both rear wheels.

Release the handbrake.

Remove the locking pin from the automatic adjustment mechanism.



Loosen the lock nut -A-, turn the adjusting bolt -B- and thereby loosen the cable tension until both levers at the brake calipers rest against the stop.



Use a screwdriver to press the lock washer -D- off the forked pin -B-. Remove equalizer -C- from linkage -A-.



Detach the handbrake cable from the rocker arm and pull it out of the guide bush at the brake caliper.


Bend the brake cable retaining clip at the lower transverse arm.

Removed, retaining ring -C- (see drawing F4446), which attaches the sheath of the cable. Pull the cable sheath out of the guides on the body.

Disconnect the handbrake cable from the rear axle subframe and remove the cable from the vehicle.

Installation



Pass the handbrake cable at the rear axle subframe.

Route the handbrake cable over the rear wishbones and guide it into the guide bushings at the brake calipers.

Hang the cable ends on the swing arms.

Insert the cable sheath into the guides at the body and from the side opposite the automatic adjustment mechanism. secure it with a circlip -C- (see drawing F-4446).

Pass the drive cable through the equalizer. Fasten the equalizer with the cable on the drive rod and fix the forked pin with a lock washer.

Adjust the handbrake see p. 119.

Insert a new locking pin into the automatic adjustment mechanism. Attach the brake cable with the retaining clip to the lower control arm.

Attach the rear wheels like this. so that the marks applied before removal coincide. Tighten the wheels with nuts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts crosswise to 100 Nm.
