Adjustment


All cars

1. Remove the parking brake lever boot.
  • 1. Disconnect the cover clip.
  • 2. Remove the cover.

NOTE: Make sure the rear brakes are cold.


Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.

3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut until the cable tension is completely released.
  • 1.Remove the clamp.
  • 2.Loosen the adjusting nut.

4. Apply and release the brake pedal to ensure the rear brakes are properly adjusted.

5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

6. Make sure that the parking brake cable and cable housing are correctly routed and secured with clamps.

7. Raise the parking brake lever up four notches.

8. Tighten the parking brake cable adjusting nut until the tightness is noticeably increased.

9. Apply and release the parking brake lever several times with sufficient force to secure the parking brake system.

10. Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.

CAUTION: If adjusting the cable does not affect plunger movement, the cable is damaged, deformed, or jammed. INSTALL a new cable and cable housing. For more information, refer to the Cable and Cable Housing chapter in this section.


NOTE: The total travel of the left and right plungers combined should be between 1mm and 8mm.


Check the plunger movement in the left and right support plates. If further adjustment is required, adjust the cable using the parking brake cable adjusting nut.

CAUTION: If adjusting the cable does not affect the parking brake caliper lever movement, the cable is damaged, deformed, or jammed. INSTALL a new cable and cable housing. For more information, refer to the Cable and Cable Housing chapter in this section.


NOTE: The total movement between the left and right parking brake caliper arms and the stopper combined should be between 0.5 mm and 2 mm.

13. Turn the rear wheels to ensure that there is no significant brake drag.

14. INSTALL the parking brake adjusting nut clamp.
  • 1. After adjustment, make sure that the position of the parking brake adjusting nut is correct.
  • 2.INSTALL the clamp.
