Adjustment


All cars

1. Remove the parking brake lever boot.
  • 1.Remove the boot clip.
  • 2.Remove the cover.

NOTE: Make sure the rear brakes are cold.


Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.

3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut until the cable is completely loose.
  • 1.Remove the clip.
  • 2. Loosen the adjusting nut.



4. Apply and release the brake pedal to ensure proper adjustment of the rear brakes.

5. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

6. Make sure that the parking brake cable and cable sheath are properly routed and clamped.

7. Raise the parking brake lever up four notches.



8. Tighten the parking brake cable adjusting nut until you feel a noticeable increase in tightness.




9. Apply and release the parking brake lever several times with enough force to lock the parking brake system.

10. Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.

Cars with rear wheel drum brakes

CAUTION: If cable adjustment does not affect plunger movement, the cable is damaged, deformed, or jammed. INSTALL new cable and cable sheath. For more information, see the chapter Rope and rope sheath. available in this section.


NOTE: The total travel of the left and right plungers combined should be between 1 mm and 8 mm.


Check the movement of the plunger in the left and right base plates. If further adjustment is required, adjust the cable with the parking brake cable adjusting nut.



Vehicles with rear wheel disc brakes

CAUTION: If adjusting the cable does not affect the movement of the parking brake caliper lever, the cable is damaged, deformed, or jammed. INSTALL new cable and cable sheath. For more information, see the chapter Rope and rope sheath. available in this section.


NOTE: The total travel between the left and right parking brake caliper levers and stopper together should be between 0.5 mm and 2 mm.


Check the movement of the parking brake caliper lever on the left and right. If further adjustment is required, adjust the cable with the parking brake cable adjusting nut.



13. Turn the rear wheels to make sure there is no pronounced brake sticking.

14. INSTALL parking brake adjusting nut clamp.
  • 1. After adjustment, check that the parking brake adjusting nut is in the correct position.
  • 2. INSTALL clamp.



15. INSTALL parking brake lever boot.
