Parking brake cable — removal and installation (Transit 2)

Removal



1. After blocking the front wheels, loosen the rear wheel nuts, then raise the rear of the vehicle and place it on supports.

2. With the parking brake released, crawl under the vehicle and separate the drive rod from the parking brake equalizer by removing the pin and clip.

3. Separate the return spring from the parking brake equalizer.

4. Remove the rear brake drums as described in Section 8.

5. Disconnect the brake cable from the brake shoe control lever by stretching the cable return spring enough to separate the cable from the lever.

6. Disconnect the cable from the mounting bracket on the support plate and pull it out (see Figure 16.6.).

Installation



7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Please contact Section 8 when installing the brake drum On short wheelbase models, clamp the cables at their intersection points (see Figure 16.7).

8. Before lowering the vehicle to the ground, check and, if necessary, adjust the parking brake as described in Section 14.
