The parking brake keeps the vehicle stationary on a level or sloped road. The parking brake, through a cable system, mechanically acts on the rear wheels. When the parking brake lever is lifted, the front cable moves forward the compensator, to which both rear cables are attached, connected to the brake pads that are pressed out (pic. 14.28). Raising the parking brake lever sets the cables in motion and presses the brake pads to be pressed against the brake drums. Through the spacer plate, the movement is simultaneously transmitted to both incoming brake pads. The compensator evenly distributes lever forces to both rear wheel brakes.
