Be sure to replace all pads on the same vehicle axle, even if only one pad is worn. Otherwise, this will lead to different coefficients of friction on the wheels, which will lead the car to the side during heavy braking. Carefully run in new brake pads and avoid sudden braking during the first 500 km. Brake pads are replaced with new ones if the old ones are worn out, oily (the parking brake does not slow down the car). Make sure that all spare parts of the brake system for your car are original and approved for use (pic. 14.23).

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Remove the protective cover from the parking brake lever and lift up the lever.

2. Turn away a nut and release a cable of a parking brake.

3. Turn away nuts and remove a back wheel.

4. Remove the rear wheel hub with the brake drum. Remove the wheel speed sensor, if installed.

5. On the reverse side of the rear brake guard, remove the brake shoe mounting clip.

6. Leaning to the sides, remove both brake shoes from the pistons of the wheel brake cylinder (pic. 14.24). Do not damage the protective covers of the wheel brake cylinders.

7. Using a small clamp, fix the pistons of the wheel brake cylinder in their original position.

8. Remove the brake pads from the bottom stop and tilt them down.

9. Pull back the wrung-out brake shoe 2 (pic. 14.25) and disconnect the parking brake cable 1 from it. Squeeze the clamp on the rear brake guard and pull the parking brake cable out of the guard.

10. First remove the lower, then the upper return springs.

11. Release the front (incoming) brake shoe 1 (pic. 14.26) from the spacer plate. If equipped, turn the automatic adjuster until the brake shoe latch is released.

12. Rotate 90°to remove the lower brake shoe spacer plate.

13. Clean the rear brake guard and brake shoe bearings, check and lubricate them with a light coat of copper-based grease (pic. 14.27).

14. Assemble the brake pads and spacer plates. Make sure that the automatic adjustment device is set to its original position.

15. Install the return springs on the brake shoes.

16. Connect the parking brake cable.

17. Turning, carefully install the brake shoes on the pistons of the wheel brake cylinder. Do not damage the protective covers. First remove the clamp that secures the pistons of the wheel brake cylinder in their original position.

18. Install both brake pads on stop.

19. Install the wheel hub and brake drum on the axle. First tighten the new wheel hub nut to 235 Nm, then loosen it 21/2 turns. Turn your hand several times «free» brake drum and at this time tighten the hub nut again with a tightening torque of 235 Nm.

20. Partially fill the hub cap with new wheel bearing grease and, using a pipe of the appropriate diameter and a hammer, carefully install the cap onto the wheel hub.

21. Press the brake pedal several times until there is strong resistance, which allows you to center the newly installed brake shoes in relation to the brake drum and brings the automatic adjusting device into operation, in which it adjusts the brake shoe clearance.

22. Install the wheels and lower the car.

23. Adjust the parking brake.

24. During the final test drive, carefully check the operation of the brakes and the operation of the parking brake.
