The parking brake system is cable-operated and controlled by an independent hand-operated parking brake lever. The parking brake system acts on the rear wheel drum brake or disc brake system as follows:
  • On vehicles with rear drum brakes, an independent hand-operated parking brake lever directly actuates the rear brake shoes via a cable system.
  • On vehicles with rear disc brakes, the parking brake lever operates the rear brake calipers via a cable and a rear caliper lever with a built-in cam. A pawl located inside the rear brake caliper rotates the piston adjusting screw, thereby compensating for lining wear.

To adjust the cable, apply the parking brake lever several times.
