Checking the operation of the vacuum brake booster

If the vacuum booster fails, the force on the brake pedal increases significantly, which negatively affects driving.

If the effort on the pedals during braking has noticeably increased compared to normal, check the brake booster with the vehicle stationary.

You will need: flat blade screwdriver, rubber bulb.



1. With the engine off, press the brake pedal five or six times. Keeping the brake pedal depressed, start the engine. The brake pedal should move forward. If it doesn't, check...



2.... tightness of the vacuum hose in the intake pipe...



3.... and a vacuum booster.


4. To check the operation of the check valve, remove the battery tray (see «Removing and installing the battery»).



5. Remove the vacuum hose fitting from the opening of the sealing sleeve of the vacuum brake booster..



6.... remove the vacuum booster hose from the bracket on the rear wall of the master brake cylinder reservoir..



7.... and take the hose.




8. Firmly insert the nose of the pear into the end of the vacuum hose with which the hose was connected to the vacuum booster, and squeeze it. The air from the pear should exit through the valve.



9. Release the pear. If it remains in a compressed state, then the valve is working. In the absence of a pear, you can purge the valve with your mouth.

10. If the check valve allows air to pass in both directions, replace the vacuum hose assembly with the valve, for which..



11.... remove the vacuum hose fitting from the intake pipe and remove the vacuum hose assembly with the check valve.

12. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
