Vacuum brake booster (Escort 5)

            0

Examination

Press the brake pedal 5-6 times with the engine off to create the same pressure in the vacuum booster cavities, close to atmospheric. At the same time, by the force applied to the pedal, determine whether the valve body is jammed. Stop the brake pedal in the middle of its travel, and start the engine. If the vacuum booster is in good condition, the brake pedal should move forward after starting the engine. If the pedal does not move forward, check the fastening of the hose tip, the condition and fastening of the flange of the tip in the booster, the condition of the hose and fittings

Removal

Remove the brake master cylinder. Remove the vacuum hose from the valve on the brake booster. Move the front seats all the way back. Remove the floor covering from the engine compartment bulkhead to access the brake booster mounting nuts. Remove the nuts. Remove the 4 nuts securing the brake booster to the bracket.

Remove the brake booster from the bracket posts and turn the bracket to the side. Remove the pin with a head and a hole for a cotter pin to release the drive lever from the shaft. Remove the vacuum booster from the engine compartment. The vacuum booster is not repairable, i.e. it must be replaced entirely.
