Removal
Raise the rear of the car and secure it on stands. Release the handbrake and remove the rear wheels.
Remove the front handbrake cable.
Disconnect the left and right rear cables from the equalizer plate.
Remove the locking pin from the cable adjustment unit. Loosen the adjusting device and release the cables from the brackets on the underbody of the vehicle (see Fig. 9.57). To do this, remove the spring clips from the cable guides.

Drum brakes
Remove the rear brake drum and brake shoes.
Squeeze the tabs of the handbrake cable retainer and remove it from the brake shield. Disconnect the cable from the mounting brackets and remove it from under the car (see Fig. 9.58, 9.59).


Disc brakes
Remove the handbrake return spring and disconnect the cable from the handbrake drive mechanism lever.
Remove the retaining ring securing the cable housing to the bracket and remove the cable.
Disconnect the cable from the mounting brackets and remove it from under the vehicle.
Installation. All models
Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
