Checking the effectiveness of the brake system

            0

It is advisable to check the efficiency of the brake system on special brake stands (similar to those used by the traffic police during the technical inspection of cars), since the car is equipped with an anti-lock braking system that does not allow braking to the skid of the wheels (until clear braking distance marks are obtained on the pavement). In extreme cases, an approximate comprehensive assessment of the operation of the brake system can be performed on a flat horizontal area, closed to traffic.

Car without load (in the cabin only the driver) accelerate in 1st gear to a speed of approximately 15 km/h. Depress the brake pedal sharply and do not release it until the vehicle has come to a complete stop.

If the vehicle skids while braking, get out of the vehicle and inspect the tracks left by the wheels. The brake track of a serviceable wheel of a car with an anti-lock braking system is very small and almost imperceptible, since the wheel does not slip, but rolls on the verge of a skid.

If a brake track L of its blocking is clearly visible on any wheel, contact a car service: the anti-lock braking system is faulty.

If the brake marks of all wheels are visible, but hardly noticeable (no clear marks left by the sliding tire) and the length of all traces on the left and on the right is the same, the brake system is working. Otherwise, repair the system.

Note. The following ratios must be observed (pic. 4.4): L lion. per. = L right. lane = L lev. rear = L right. rear
