Removal
All cars
1. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12.
2. Release the parking brake.
3. Loosen the parking cable adjustment nut to the end of the thread.
- 1.Remove the clamp.
- 2.Loosen the adjusting nut.

4. Remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to Section 204-04 for additional information.

CAUTION: Secure the exhaust pipe.
Disconnect the exhaust pipe assembly with the muffler.
- 1. Unscrew the nuts and discard them as no longer needed.
- 2. Release the suspension supports.

6. Disconnect the center suspension support.

7. Remove the central heat shield of the exhaust system.

8. Disconnect the rear exhaust heat shield from the floor panel.

9. Disconnect the parking cables from the equalizer. Turn the cable 90 degrees.

NOTE: There are marks and grommets on the cable casing to indicate the locations of the clamps. To facilitate installation, mark the position of the clamps on the outer cable casing.
Disconnect the rear cable from the clamps (both sides, right side shown).

11. Remove the air deflectors on both sides (if equipped).
- 1. Remove the screws.
- 2. Release the clamp.

12. Disconnect the cable guides from the floor panel.

13. Disconnect the cable sheaths from the bracket.

Cars with anti-lock braking system
14. Disconnect the rear wheel speed sensors.

Cars with rear drum brakes
15. Remove the brake drums together with the wheel hubs.

16. Disconnect the parking cable guide from the connecting rod (on both sides).

17. Disconnect the parking cable cables.

18. Pass the parking cable and guide through the connecting rod (on both sides).
19. Remove the parking brake connecting cable (both sides).
- 1.Release the control lever.
- 2. Disconnect the cable.
- 3. Press the clamp.

Cars with rear disc brakes
20. Disconnect the parking cable from the connecting rod (on both sides).

21. Disconnect the parking cable from the caliper (on both sides).
- 1.Pull back the parking brake lever.
- 2. Disconnect the cable from the parking brake lever.
- 3.Remove the cable sheath clamp.
- 4. Disconnect the cable and cable sheath.

All cars
22. Remove the parking cables.
Installation

NOTE: The left cable can be identified by the white sleeve and the right cable by the black sleeve.
NOTE: Check the exhaust hangers for damage and fatigue wear. If necessary, install new exhaust hangers using the appropriate lubricant.
NOTE: Install new exhaust pipe/muffler assembly nuts.
When installing, perform the removal procedure in reverse order.
2. Adjust the parking brake. For more information, refer to the Adjusting the Parking Brake Cable chapter in this section.
