Replacing the parking brake cable (Mondeo 3)

ORDER OF EXECUTION

Place the vehicle securely on jack stands or lift it completely.
Release the parking brake lever.
Remove the exhaust system as described above and then remove the heat shield panel (screws indicated by arrows) from underneath the vehicle.

Remove the exhaust system and heat shield panel (screws are indicated by arrows).
Then remove the mounting trim on the rod and...
...hang the handbrake cable – as described above – on the brake caliper.
Now release the cable from the cable balancer (indicated by the arrow).
Then hang the handbrake cable over the bottom. To do this, squeeze both locking tabs 1 and hang the cable 1 over the bottom.
Now you can completely remove the cable from the bottom of the car (see arrows).

Release the parking brake cable (locations indicated by arrows) from the cable balancer.

Removing the parking brake cable from the bottom of the vehicle.
Before installing a new cable, tension the adjusting mechanism in the disc brake calipers.
Hang the new cable and complete the installation in reverse order.
For basic adjustment of the new cable, pull the brake lever several times until it stops. This activates the self-adjusting mechanism, which sets the pre-tensioned rods and aligns their lengths.
Check the lever travel, the brake pads should easily fit the brake discs from about the fourth stop, and subsequently the discs from the seventh "tooth" should be locked.
Take a short test drive. During this drive, gently apply the handbrake and observe the uniform braking effect on both rear wheels.
If the braking action is uneven, check the cable lengths and readjust them.
