Replacing the front parking brake cable (Focus 2)

Replace the front parking brake cable if it is excessively stretched (it is impossible to adjust the parking brake), or if there is mechanical damage to the cable cores or threaded end.

You will need: a 10 mm spanner, flat-head and Phillips-head screwdrivers.

1. Remove the parking brake actuator lever (see "Removing and installing the parking brake lever").

2. Remove the heat shield of the additional muffler (see "Removing and installing heat shields").

3. Slide the lower end of the cable back into the equalizer…

4. …and, turning the cable downwards, remove its tip from the equalizer.

5. Use a screwdriver to pry up the front edge of the front parking brake cable seal…

6. ...pulling the antennae..

7. … remove the seal from the hole in the base of the body and pull the cable into the passenger compartment.

8. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.

9. Adjust the parking brake system (see "Adjusting the Parking Brake Drive").
