Removing and installing the brake pedal

            0

The brake pedal is removed to replace it if there is a creak, seizing or increased play, as well as if the return spring is damaged. In addition, the brake pedal/throttle pedal assembly must be removed to gain access to the air intake filter when replacing the filter.

You will need: socket head «at 13», pliers with thin jaws, a screwdriver with a thin blade.

NOTE: For clarity, operation is shown with the instrument panel and steering column bracket removed.

1. Using a screwdriver, depress the retainer of the wiring harness block of the speed control switch (Cruise control) …

2.... disconnect the block from the switch.

3. Turn the switch clockwise and remove it from the pedal bracket.

4. Remove the brake light switch in the same way by turning it counterclockwise.

NOTE: If the brake pedal is being removed for replacement, the cruise control and brake light switches will need to be reset to the new pedal. For convenience, it is better to remove them directly on the car.

5. Disconnect the harness holder from the pedal bracket and move the harness to the side.

6. Squeeze with pliers two clamps of the finger of the pusher fork of the vacuum brake booster..

NOTE: This is what the servo pushrod pin pins look like.

7....and remove your finger from the fork and pedal holes.

8. Squeeze the clamps of the throttle pedal harness block..

9.... and disconnect the block from the pedal.

10. Turn off five nuts..

11.... remove one bolt securing the pedal bracket to the bulkhead..

12.... and remove the pedal assembly.

13. If it is necessary to replace the brake pedal, unscrew the two nuts securing to the throttle pedal bracket at the top..

14.... one nut at the bottom, remove the pedal and move it to the new brake pedal bracket.

15. Install the parts in the reverse order of removal.
