Removal
1. Move the driver's seat back as far as it will go to create more working space.
2. Remove the ashtray. Then remove the screws and remove the lower part of the trim from the front panel.
3. Pull the elastic wire retainer out of the right end of the pedal pivot shaft and remove the washer (see Fig. 12.3).
4. Unscrew the nut securing the pedal pivot to the pushrod. This nut is installed near the top of the pedal (see Fig. 12.4,a,b).
5. Press the pedal axle out of the support bracket to the left just enough to remove the pedal. On models with a non-automatic transmission, you must leave the blue nylon spacer ring (located between the clutch and brake pedals) on the axle (see Fig. 12.5,a,b). On models with an automatic transmission, the axle can be pulled out completely.

6. After removing the pedal, pull the bushings out of its ends. If necessary, remove the pusher pin and rubber pad. If necessary, replace the components (see Fig. 12.6, a-c).
Installation
7. Before installing the pedal, apply a small amount of grease to the pedal axle, bushings and journal.
8. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Make sure that the bushings are installed correctly and that the pedal axle section is located on the right side of the pedal bracket. Make sure that the wire retainer is installed correctly.
