Removing and installing the ABS relay box (Mondeo 1 and 2)

Note: The information in this section applies only to models produced before 1997 (with Mecatronic hydraulic modulator). Models produced since 1997 (with Bosh hydraulic modulator) have built-in relays. And such a box is not available.

Removal


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (chapter 5 paragraph 1).

2. On 4-cylinder models, disconnect the vacuum hose from the connection on the intake manifold by squeezing the tabs on the grommet and slowly removing the grommet.

3. For better access, release the heater hose from its clips and place it away from the relay box.

4. Disconnect the relay box wiring connector(s) and, where necessary, the speed sensor unit.

5. Remove the four slotted head screws and remove the relay box from the hydraulic modulator (see Fig. 22.5).

6. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Do not tighten the fastening screws of the relay box with excessive force, as its plastic housing is fragile.
