Replacing the front brake pads (Escort 3)

Raise the front of the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel from the desired side. If the vehicle is equipped with a brake pad wear sensor, disconnect its connector 2 (Fig. 6.4). Remove retaining plate 1 and use a 7 mm Allen key to unscrew bolts 4 (fig. 6.1) guide pins. Remove the caliper and hang it under the wing on a wire.

Remove the inner and then the outer pads. Before installing, carefully move the piston as far as possible into the cylinder, preventing the brake fluid from splashing out of the master cylinder reservoir. Install the inner pad, insert the pad pressure spring into the caliper (Fig. 6.5) and, pressing on the inner pad, install it in place.

Insert the brake pad wear sensor wire into the caliper cutout and connect its connector. Install the outer pad. Install the caliper and tighten its mounting bolts. Install the retaining plate and press the brake pedal several times to set the pistons to the working position.
