Front brake pads — replacement

            0

Warning: Replace disc brake pads on both front wheels at the same time - never change pads on just one wheel. Brake system dust contains asbestos, which is extremely harmful to health. Do not blow off with compressed air or inhale it.

1. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir, drain approximately 2/3 of the fluid volume into a container and discard it.

2. Loosen the wheel nuts, raise the vehicle and place it securely on stands. Remove the front wheels.

3. Carefully check the brake disc as described in section 4. If treatment is necessary, remove the disc as recommended in section 4.

4. Following the figures, starting from 2.4a, follow the procedure for replacing the pads.

2.4a. Using a clamp, install the piston back into the caliper bore. so that the pads slide off the disc easily - remember that one end of the clamp should be on a plane next to the tip of the brake hose, and the other end (screw) - press the outer block.

2.4b. Unscrew the two caliper pins (arrows) attaching it to the steering knuckle (this requires a special head).

2.4c. Rotate the caliper bottom up and out of the brake disc (support the caliper with a piece of wire - do not let it hang on the rubber hose).

2 4z. When installing new pads into the caliper, carefully push the inner pad clamps straight into the piston until the back side of the pad rests directly on the front of the piston - slide the outer pad into the caliper as shown (make sure that the orienting tabs on the block (1) entered the corresponding support holes (2) caliper frames).

2.4i. Place the damping spring on the outer shoe (1) under the upper knuckle arm so that the notches on the upper edge of both pads are on the upper knuckle arm (2), then rotate the caliper down until the notches on the bottom edge of the pads are on the lower knuckle arm (be careful not to pinch the brake hose while doing this).

2.4k. Apply silicone grease to the caliper studs and inside their insulators, thread the studs through the caliper body into the holes in the steering knuckle arms (screw on by hand first, then to the required tightening torque).

5. After installing new pads and tightening the caliper, put the wheels on, lower the car.

Note: if for some reason the brake hose was disconnected from the caliper, the brake system should be bled, as stated in section 11.

6. Fill the reservoir of the main brake cylinder with fresh brake fluid and pump the brakes slowly several times so that the pads are installed relative to the disc.
