Raise the rear of the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel on the desired side. Make sure the parking brake is not applied. Remove the hub cap, remove the cotter pin, unscrew the lock washer and hub nut (fig. 4.12). Remove the washer. outer hub bearing and pull the brake drum-hub off the journal. Remove the clamping device 10 (fig. 6.2) of the front shoe, turn it up and out and remove it from the brake shield support. Remove the front shoe and tension springs.

Remove the rear shoe clamp and remove it from the brake shield support. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the rear shoe. Disconnect the expansion bar from the rear shoe. Install spring 13 and expansion bar 7 on the rear shoe.

Install the assembled shoe on the brake shield support, attaching the parking brake cable. Install the lower tension spring and both springs of the automatic clearance adjustment lever. Install the front shoe, moving it perpendicular to the brake shield. Install the shoe clamps. Install the brake drum-hub on the journal, as described in Section 4 "Chassis".
