Removing and installing the front wheel brake mechanism (Escort 3)

Raise the front of the vehicle on stands and remove the wheel from the desired side. Loosen the nipple and disconnect the flexible hose from the wheel cylinder. Plug the hose hole. Disconnect the brake pad wear sensor connector. Loosen the mounting bolts and remove the guide assembly with the caliper and cylinder. Install the brake mechanism in the reverse order of removal. After installation, bleed the hydraulic drive to remove air from it.

Raise the front of the car on stands and remove the wheel from the desired side. Remove the brake assembly. Loosen the brake disc mounting screws and remove it. Install the brake disc in the reverse order of removal.

Checking the brake disc runout


Remove the wheel and tighten its mounting bolts into the disk holes, installing 19 mm long spacer bushings under them. Make sure that the play in the hub bearings does not affect the results of this check. Bring the leg of the dial indicator to the working surface of the disk and check its axial runout, which should not exceed 0.15 mm.

Remove the sealing ring from the cylinder (Fig. 6.8).



Remove the sealing ring from the cylinder (Fig. 6.8).


Clean all parts thoroughly, install a new sealing ring in the cylinder groove, lubricating it with brake fluid. Install the protective cover. Lubricate with brake fluid and install the piston.
