Withdrawal

1. Remove and set aside the oil filler cap.

2. Disconnect the PCV valve and air hose assembly from the valve cover.

3. Separate the throttle cable from the valve cover.

4. Disconnect (in the presence of) cruise control cable from the valve cover.

5. Turn off fixing bots and remove a cover from the engine.

6. Clean the contact surfaces of the valve cover and cylinder heads. To remove all traces of oil, use acetone or lacquer thinner.

Installation

7. Before installing the valve cover, refer to Section 10 and ensure that the cylinder head bolts are secure.

8. Replace the new gasket, then lower the cover onto it (if the synthetic rubber pads - neoprene - are not damaged, it can be reused). Make sure all the holes line up, then screw on the bolts and tighten them by hand.

Note: Sealant is not normally required when installing the valve cover. But to prevent "liking" gaskets to the head and cover and facilitate subsequent disassembly, a very thin layer of RTV Sealant can be applied to both sides of the gasket.

9. Tighten the bolts to specification in a criss-cross pattern.

10. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
