Valve lifters — removal, inspection and installation

            0

1. Remove the cylinder head (section 10).

2. Before removing the valve lifters, take measures to subsequently install them exactly in their places.

3. The tappets are removed from the channels in the following ways. On new engines, the tappets can be removed with a small magnet, a curved ruler, by placing a dot under the retainer ring on the top of each pusher.

Caution: Do not use pliers to remove pushrods.

4. After removing the pushers, wash them with solvent and dry without mixing. Remember that each pusher will need to be installed in the place from which it was removed.

5. Check each pusher wall, stem seat, and leg for abrasion, nicks, and wear. Leg of each pusher (surface moving along the contour of the camshaft cam) should be slightly convex, although this is difficult to discern with the naked eye. If it is concave (see picture), then the camshaft and tappets must be replaced. If the pushrod walls are damaged or worn, inspect the holes in the engine block. If the push rod sockets are worn, check the rod ends.

6. When replacing pushers, the camshaft should be changed.

7. Before installing in the block, lubricate the leg of each pusher with grease based on "moth".
