Removal
1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
2. Remove the intake manifold (see previous section).
3 Disconnect the oxygen sensor contact wires and disconnect the intake air control valve hose from the pipe assembly. Unscrew the nuts from the EGR valve bracket (see chapter 6).
4. Loosen the clamps and disconnect the heated air supply pipe and the manifold screen.
5. Raise the vehicle and support it on stands.
6. Locate the elbow section of the exhaust pipe between the exhaust manifold and the catalytic converter. Unscrew the nuts from the three studs connecting the exhaust manifold to the exhaust pipe (see figure).

7 At the lower end of the elbow section (see illustration), remove the single bolt from the bracket supporting the small tube and the two bolts from the flange between the elbow and the catalytic converter.

8. Remove the seven exhaust manifold bolts (see picture). Remember that these bolts are different lengths, so mark the installation location of each one.

9 Disconnect the exhaust manifold from the cylinder head.
Installation
10. The mating surfaces of the manifold and cylinder head must be cleaned before installing the manifold.
11. While holding the manifold in place, tighten the bolts.
12. When tightening the bolts, do not violate the recommended sequence (see figure), use a torque wrench. Tighten the bolts to the required torque in two steps.

13. Further assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly.
