Replacing the front parking brake cable

Replace the front parking brake cable if it is overstretched (impossibility of adjusting the parking brake) and mechanical damage to the cable cores.

You will need: wrenches "for 13", "for 17", a screwdriver with a flat blade.



1. In the car, remove the lining of the floor tunnel (see Removing and installing floor tunnel lining).



2. Using a screwdriver, pry off the stop bar on the leash of the parking brake lever…



3.... straighten the antennae..




4.... and remove the tip of the front cable from the groove of the leash.

5. Place the vehicle on a lift or pit.

6. Disconnect the intake pipe of the additional muffler from the exhaust pipe (see Removal and installation of the main and additional mufflers), remove the suspension cushions from the muffler brackets and lower the muffler down, resting the intermediate pipe on the rear suspension cross member.

7. Remove the thermal screen of the additional muffler (see Removing and installing thermal shields).

8. Fully unscrew the adjusting nut 3 (see fig. 9.6) from the threaded lug of the front drive cable 4 and then unscrew the lock nut from the lug.

9. Remove the equalizer 2 from the tip of the front cable together with the rear cables 1 and 5 of the drive.

10. Remove the front parking brake cable by pulling it down through the hole seal in the base of the body.

11. Install the front parking brake cable and all removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

12. Adjust parking brake actuator (refer to Parking Brake Actuator Adjustment).
