Removal and installation of the main and additional mufflers

            0

The main and additional mufflers are interconnected by welded pipes into a non-separable assembly, which, if any element is damaged, must be removed from the vehicle assembly.

You will need: 13 wrench, flat blade screwdriver.

1. Loosen the nuts..

2….and separate the flanges of the collector and the additional muffler (see Removing and installing the manifold and replacing its gasket).

3. Remove the cushions from the brackets at the rear of the main mufflers and then remove the main muffler and additional mufflers from the vehicle.

NOTE: The main muffler front suspension pad was removed from its bracket prior to disconnecting the collector and secondary muffler flanges (see point 1).

4. Establish the main and additional mufflers in an order, the return to removal. Be sure to replace the sealing gasket between the flanges of the collector and the additional muffler with a new one. To facilitate the installation of system suspension cushions, lubricate the main muffler and exhaust pipe brackets with soapy water.

NOTE: Separate main and additional mufflers with pipes can be supplied as spare parts…

…moreover, the pipes can have enlarged diameter flares for telescopic connections or no flares for butt connections.

In both cases, to replace the damaged element, it is necessary to cut the pipe connecting them in place, for example, with a surface grinder ("Bulgarian"), attaching a new element to determine the location of the cut. Moreover, for a telescopic connection, it is necessary to cut off the pipe with a margin necessary to insert the old pipe into a new one, and when connecting end-to-end, without a margin. In the first case, the pipes are connected with clamps, and in the second - by welding or a transitional coupling.
