Replacing the exhaust system suspension cushions (Mondeo 4)

Rubber suspension mounts for the exhaust system are replaced if, due to damage or excessive deformation, the system elements begin to knock when in contact with the body or other vehicle components.

You will need a flat-blade screwdriver.

…and the rear part of the main muffler are suspended on two identical cushions. To replace them, perform the following operations.



1. Use a screwdriver to move the cushion from the exhaust manifold (or muffler) bracket…





2….and then from the bracket on the subframe (body).

HELPFUL TIP: If you are replacing a damaged cushion, cut it with a knife to make it easier to remove.

3. Install the new cushion in the reverse order of removal. To facilitate the installation of the cushion, lubricate the brackets of the exhaust manifold (muffler) and subframe with a soap solution.

4. Similarly, remove the front part of the main muffler suspension cushion.

5. Install the exhaust pipe and front muffler suspension cushions in the reverse order of removal. To facilitate installation of the cushions, lubricate the brackets on the exhaust pipe and muffler, as well as the cushion tails with a soap solution.
