Additional fuel-fired heater — removal and installation

Removal


1. Remove the air filter housing.
  • 1. Disconnect the air cleaner inlet hose going to the engine.
  • 2. Disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor connector.
  • 3. Disconnect the vacuum line.
  • Remove the air filter housing from the top.



2. Disconnect the fuse box and place it to the side. Remove the bolt.



3. Disconnect the fuse box and place it to the side (continued).
  • Release the fuse box (two clips).



4. Disconnect the EGR shut-off valve.


  • 1. Disconnect the connector.
  • 2. Remove the screws.
  • If necessary, disconnect the vacuum hoses.



5. Release the fuel line of the auxiliary heater fuel pump.



6. Disconnect the auxiliary heater connector.

NOTE: Shut off the cooling system.


Disconnect the coolant hoses. Release the hose clamps.

NOTE: Shut off the cooling system.


Disconnect the coolant hoses (continued). Release the hose clamp.



9. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

10. Disconnect the engine protection. Unscrew nine bolts.



11. Release the exhaust pipe.



12. Remove the exhaust pipe and air intake hose. Release the two clamps.




13. Remove the auxiliary heater. Remove the two nuts (one shown).



14. Lower the vehicle.

15. Remove the auxiliary heater (continued). Unscrew the nut.

NOTE: Lower the auxiliary heater down in the sequence shown.


Lower the auxiliary heater down.



17. Raise the car.


18. Remove the additional heater from below.



Installation


1. Install the elements back in place in reverse order.

2. Check and correct the coolant level if necessary. Refer to Section 303-03 for additional information.

3. Check the correct operation of the additional heater. If necessary, perform diagnostics using FDS 2000.
