A2: CHECKING BRAKE PADS FOR WEAR |

|
1Inspect the brake pads for excessive wear. Refer to Section 206-00 for additional information. |

• Are the brake pads and linings in good condition? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
Go to A3 |
|
|
→ No |
|
|
INSTALL new brake pads. Refer to Section 206-02 / 206-04 for additional information. CHECK that the system is operating correctly. |

|
A3: CHECK THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES FOR DAMAGE |
|
|
1Inspect the parking brake cables and cable housings for signs of wear, rust, and chafing. |
|
|
• Are the parking brake cables and cable housings in good condition? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
CHECK for other causes of failure, including tightness of the parking brake lever and condition of normal brake system components. |
|
|
→ No |
|
|
REPAIR or INSTALL cables and cable housings as necessary. CHECK system for proper operation. |

PINPOINT TEST B: PARKING BRAKE CANNOT BE RELEASED

1Raise and secure the vehicle on a lift with the parking brake fully applied. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information. - Release the parking brake by pulling up the parking brake lever and pressing the lock button. |

• Does the parking brake release? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
CHECK for other causes of failure, including the condition of normal brake system components. REPAIR or INSTALL new components as necessary. |

→ No |
|
|

B2: CHECKING THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES |
|
|
1Loosen the parking brake cable. - Turn the rear wheels manually. |
|
|
• Do the rear wheels turn freely? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
INSTALL a new parking brake lever. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Lever in this section.. CHECK that the system operates correctly. |

|
→ No |
|
|
Go to B3 |
|
|
B3: CHECKING THE FRONT PARKING BRAKE CABLE |
|
|
1Disconnect the front parking brake cable and cable housing from the rear parking brake cable and cable housing at the equalizer section. - Turn the rear wheels manually. |
|
|
• Do the rear wheels turn freely? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
INSTALL a new front parking brake cable and cable housing. For additional information, refer to Parking Brake Cable and Cable Housing in this section.. CHECK for proper system operation. |

|
→ No |
|
|
Go to B4 |
|
|
B4: CHECKING THE REAR PARKING BRAKE CABLES |
|
|
1Release the parking brake from the rear wheel brakes one by one. - Turn the wheel that is affected by the released parking brake. |
|
|
• Does the wheel rotate freely? |
|
|
→ Yes |
|
|
INSTALL a new parking brake control lever on rear drum brakes or calipers on rear disc brakes. Refer to Section 206-02 / 206-04 for additional information. CHECK for proper system operation. |

|
