Removal and installation of the main brake cylinder

Warnings: Brake fluid is toxic and will corrode vehicle paintwork. Handle her very carefully. Place the vehicle on stands when bleeding the brakes.

The work procedure for vehicles with disc/drum brakes and with a combination of disc and drum brakes is the same.

Remove the master brake cylinder as follows:

- The brake system can be emptied in two ways. In the first method, insert the air bleed hose into one of the bleeder screw plugs, and lower the other end of the hose into a container, open the bleeder valve and completely drain the brake fluid by depressing the brake pedal. The second way is to pump out the brake fluid with a vacuum cleaner from the tank:

- Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor connector from the locking cover and unscrew the cover;

- in the presence of a manual transmission, loosen and remove the hose from the tank side;

- Disconnect the brake pipes from the side of the main brake cylinder with a special wrench, while placing a rag under the connecting nuts to collect the escaping brake fluid;

- Unscrew the main brake cylinder from the front wall of the brake booster using a replaceable socket wrench and a ratchet.

On fig. 267 shows the master brake cylinder installed on the car.

Install in the reverse order of removal. After installation, fill the system with brake fluid and bleed as described in the appropriate section. Tighten the cylinder mount to 25 Nm, cap nuts to 13 Nm.
