Checking the ignition coil (Fusion)

You will need a tester or ohmmeter.

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

2. Remove the air filter (see "Removal and installation the air filter").

3. Disconnect the high-voltage wires from the ignition coil terminals…

4. …and measure the resistance of the secondary winding by connecting an ohmmeter to the terminals of the 2nd and 3rd cylinders. The resistance should be 8.0–9.0 kOhm.

5. Repeat the check for terminals of cylinders 1 and 4.



6. If the resistance of at least one of the secondary windings differs from the specified value, replace the ignition coil (see "Removal and installation the ignition coil").

7. Reconnect the high-voltage wires and install the filter.

Note: Before installation, lubricate the high-voltage wire tips with a grease such as petroleum jelly.
