1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces on the upper surface of the cylinder block and the lower surface of the cylinder head.

2. Screw the dowel pins (tool 21.003) into the cylinder block and install a new cylinder head gasket.

3. Install the cylinder head. Screw its bolts into the accessible holes by hand, replace the mounting pins with the remaining cylinder head mounting bolts.

4. Tighten the cylinder head bolts (tool 21.002) in the first three stages (see subsection 4.1.1.9), observing the appropriate tightening order (see Fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening order).

5. Install the gears on the crankshaft and camshaft in accordance with the installation marks.

6. Install the ignition distributor, timing belt and release the timing belt tensioner.

Attention! After installing the timing belt, the crankshaft can only be rotated in the direction in which the shaft rotates when the engine is running.

7. Check and, if necessary, adjust the valve clearance (see subsection 4.1.2).

8. Install the cylinder head cover and tighten the bolts in the recommended order (see Fig. Cylinder Head Cover Bolt Tightening Order).

9. Screw in the spark plugs, screw in the timing belt cover and attach the front exhaust pipe to the exhaust manifold.

10. Install the high voltage distributor onto the ignition distributor and connect the high voltage wires to the corresponding spark plugs.

11. Connect the vacuum hose to the carburetor and the coolant supply and return lines to the carburetor's automatic starting device housing.

12. Connect the transmission ventilation line to the oil separator.

13. Connect the brake booster line and accelerator pedal cable.

14. Connect the upper and lower hoses to the expansion tank and fill the cooling system with liquid to the appropriate level.

15. Connect the vehicle's ground wire to the battery and install the lower cover.

16. Start the engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.

17. Adjust the ignition timing (see subsection 4.1.3.5), idle speed and CO concentration in the exhaust gases (see subsection 4.1.4.1.3, subsection 4.1.4.2.5).

18. After warming up the engine, remove the cylinder head cover and disconnect the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs.

19. Tighten the cylinder head bolts (tool 21.002) in the order shown in Fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening order.

20. Install the cylinder head cover, observing the proper tightening sequence (see Fig. Cylinder head cover bolt tightening sequence) and connect the high-tension wires to the spark plugs.

21. Install the air filter.
