Caution! Always replace the four pistons together with the pins. If one cylinder needs to be ground, all pistons together with the pins should be ground and replaced. The same diameter also means that they have the same weight, which in turn is a condition for proper engine balancing.
1. Press out the piston pins using a press.
2. Place the connecting rods on a plate and check that they are not deformed.
3. Place fixture 21.014 in a vice and pull out its guide pin until it stops.
4. Install the piston with the "Front" sign in the same direction, as well as the connecting rod with an oil spray.
5. Position the piston in the fixture so that the arrow on the bottom of the piston points forward.
6. Insert the guide pin into the piston hole until it stops.
7. Press the piston pin into the hole in the foot on the opposite side of the piston so that its head is level with the inner edge of the foot.
8. Install a spacer sleeve in the fixture that matches the engine type.
9. Apply marks to the connecting rod head with a thermochrome pen (Faber-Castell 2815) and heat it until the mark changes to a color that matches the outer color of the pen. This means that the connecting rod head has heated up to the temperature required for pressing the pin into the head bushing (260°–300°C).
10. Quickly move the connecting rod and place it inside the piston on the mounting shank. Insert the piston pin until it stops.
11. Wait until the connecting rod cools down and check that the piston is connected to the connecting rod correctly.
