Installation of pistons with connecting rods in 1.1/1.4i engines (Fiesta 2)

Heat the connecting rod to 280°C. You can use an electric stove for this. Special thermal rods "Faber Castell" are used to check the temperature.

Note: The above temperature of 280°C must not be exceeded.

Place the piston in the fixture as shown in Fig. 2.77. Install the heated connecting rod in the mounting position relative to the piston (arrow on the piston bottom).

Insert the piston pin into the guide and in one movement insert it into the piston and connecting rod until it stops. To improve sliding, lubricate the piston pin with engine oil.

If you do not have sufficient experience in carrying out such work and if you do not have the above equipment, it is better to entrust the installation of piston pins to connect the piston to the connecting rod to specialists from the technical service workshop.

A piston pin that is not fully inserted can be brought to the correct position by pressing it in a cold state under a press. This seemingly simple operation results in damage to the piston, since pressure is applied to its jacket. After connecting to the connecting rod, the piston should rotate absolutely freely relative to the connecting rod.
