Removal and installation the intermediate shaft

Removal
1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
2. Loosen the generator mounting bolts and remove the V-belt that drives it.
3. Remove the timing belt cover.
4. Remove the pulley from the crankshaft and its thrust gasket.
5. Set the piston of the 1st cylinder to TDC, mark the position of the distributor rotor and remove the ignition distributor.
6. Unscrew the pulley mounting bolt on the intermediate shaft.
7. Loosen the tensioner fastening and remove the timing belt.
8. Remove the fuel pump and its drive pusher.
9. Unscrew the intermediate shaft cover, mounting plate and remove the intermediate shaft.
10. Remove the sealing ring from the intermediate shaft cover.
Installation
1. Install the intermediate shaft sealing ring in the cover.
2. Secure the intermediate shaft and mounting plate in the cylinder block. Check the axial clearance of the intermediate shaft (if necessary, replace the mounting plate, selecting its thickness accordingly).
3. Lubricate the edges of the sealing ring with oil and install it on the intermediate shaft together with the cover using tool 21.009 A.
4. Install the pulley on the intermediate shaft.
5. Insert the fuel pump drive pusher into the hole in the cylinder block and secure the pump.
6. Install the pulley on the intermediate shaft so that the pulley reinforcement ribs are directed towards the cylinder block.
7. Check whether the positions of the crankshaft, camshaft and ignition distributor correspond to the position of the piston of the 1st cylinder at TDC. Secure the ignition distributor and check its correct installation.
8. Install the timing belt and adjust its tension.
9. Install the thrust washer on the crankshaft, and then secure the pulley to the crankshaft.
10. Install the timing belt cover.
11. Install the V-belt for the generator and fan drive, adjust its tension (the deflection should be 10 mm in the middle between the crankshaft and generator pulleys).
12. Install the ignition distributor, connect the high voltage wires and the ground wire to the battery.
