Installing the cylinder head

1. Thoroughly clean the holes for the cylinder head bolts from oil.

2. Install a new head gasket to the engine block. On vehicles built since 9/88, an asbestos-free gasket is installed.

3. Carefully place the head on the engine block.

4. Screw in the cylinder head bolts by hand and then tighten them in four steps (on cars manufactured since 9/88 - in three stages), strictly following the tightening sequence (see fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence).

Attention! On vehicles built prior to 9/88, only new bolts need to be installed.


5. Install the valve lifter rods in their original positions.

6. Install the lever axle assembly and tighten the fastening bolts to a torque of 35–40 Nm.

7. Adjust valve clearances.

8. Install the cylinder head cover with a new gasket.

9. Screw in the oil filler cap and spark plugs.

10. Install the exhaust pipe and hot air intake.

Attention! Use only new bolts securing the exhaust pipe to the manifold.




11. Connect previously removed wires and hoses (1, 2, 3, 4 - high voltage wires).

12. Connect the throttle cable to the carburetor.


13. Install the air filter.

14. Fill the cooling system with liquid.

15. Connect ground wire to battery.

16. If the cylinder head was removed to replace the head gasket, the oil and oil filter must be changed.
