Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence

1. Remove ground wire from battery.

2. Remove the air filter by first unscrewing the 2 screws securing the filter cover and disconnecting the crankcase ventilation hose from the oil filler cap, as well as the vacuum hose from the intake manifold.

3. Drain the engine coolant by disconnecting the lower hose on the radiator and opening the cap on the thermostat housing.




4. Remove hoses from thermostat (1 - outlet hose, 2 - radiator hose).



5. Remove the coolant supply hose to the carburetor automatic choke control.

6. Remove the throttle cable of the carburetor after first disconnecting the spring clip 1 and unscrewing the bracket 2.

7. Remove the fuel and vacuum hoses from the carburetor.


8. Remove the crankcase breather and brake booster hoses from the intake manifold.

9. Remove the high-voltage wires from the spark plugs by the tips and unscrew the spark plugs.

10. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the coolant temperature and radiator fan activation sensors, as well as the carburetor idle system solenoid valve.



11. Remove the heated air intake and exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold by unscrewing the bolts.

12. Remove the oil filler cap.

13. Remove the cylinder head cover by first unscrewing the 4 bolts.



14. Remove the valve lever axle assembly from the cylinder head by unscrewing 4 bolts (indicated by arrows).

15. Remove the valve lifter rods. When reused, they must be installed in their original places, so mark the pushers with adhesive tape or fold them in such a way that they are not confused during installation.

16. Unscrew the cylinder head bolts in the reverse order to tightening (see fig. Cylinder head bolt tightening sequence) and remove the head from the engine.
