Installing oil seals

The valve stem seal shown in the illustration should only be installed with an inlet valve that does not have the FORD oval lettering on the stem.
1. Lubricate the valve stem with oil (preferably SAE 90 SQM 2C-9002-AA) and install the valve into the cylinder head.
2. Install the oil deflector cap on the valve stem. In order not to damage the working edges of the oil deflector cap, wrap the grooves on the end of the valve stem with adhesive tape, which must be removed after installing the cap. Insert the exhaust valve oil deflector cap until it stops using tool 21-007.
Caution! Install only new oil seals.
3. Install the spring and spring plate on the valve, compress the spring and insert the valve crackers. Install the spring with a smaller pitch of turns towards the head.
4. Install the remaining valves in the same manner and check the installation by hitting the ends of the valve stems with a soft-tipped hammer.
