Engine oil change

            0

The following tool is required to change the oil:
  • Inspection pit or hydraulic jack with jack stands.
  • Special tool for releasing the oil filter (oil filter pliers, wrench with tension band or tool HAZET-2172).
  • A set of replacement socket wrenches for releasing the engine oil drain plug, as well as an oil container that can hold at least 7 liters.

The following wear parts need to be replaced:
  • O-ring for drain plug (sometimes comes with an oil filter).
  • Replaceable oil filter element. When buying a replacement, indicate the model and year of manufacture. Use only FORD oil filter.
  • Depending on the engine, 3.75-6.6 liters of engine oil. Use only engine oils approved by FORD, see p. 33.

The engine oil must be changed every 15,000 km. If the vehicle mileage does not exceed the specified value, change the oil once a year. At the same time, replace the oil filter element at the same time. Under severe operating conditions such as short distance driving, frequent cold starts and heavy dust, the engine oil and oil filter should be changed at shorter intervals.

Attention: Old oil must in any case be handed over to special waste oil collection points. Oil sales points accept the corresponding amount of old oil for free, so when buying oil, you must keep the receipt and the canister for the subsequent return of the old oil! The administration of districts and cities informs about where the nearest waste oil collection point is located. Under no circumstances should old oil be simply drained or disposed of with household waste. This inevitably causes great harm to the environment by poisoning groundwater.

Draining engine oil

Warm up the engine to operating temperature (not less than +60°С). Warm up the engine during the trip, driving for this 10-15 km.

Raise the car horizontally.

Place a container under the drain plug of the pan to drain the old oil.

Unscrew oil filler cap -arrow-.

Loosen the oil pan drain plug and completely drain the old oil.

Attention: If metal chips and wear products are found in the engine oil in large quantities, this indicates seizing, for example, main or connecting rod bearings. To avoid subsequent damage, thoroughly clean the oil passages and oil hoses after repairing the engine.

Tighten drain plug with new O-ring to 25 Nm (diesel engine: 35 Nm).

Lower the car.

Oil filter replacement

Place a container under the oil filter to drain the old oil. There is a special tool for unscrewing the oil filter, for example. HAZET 2172. You can also drive a pointed screwdriver into the filter from the side.

Clean the flange for the oil filter on the crankcase using fuel. Remove any seal residues from the flange.

The rubber seal on a new oil filter is easy to lubricate with engine oil.

Tighten the new oil filter by hand until the filter seal is in contact with the flange on the cylinder block. After that, with a strap wrench, tighten the filter another 3/4 turn. Follow the instructions on the filter housing.

Attention: It is necessary to use an oil filter designed only for this car model.

Filling with engine oil

Fill in new oil through the filler neck on the cylinder head cover. Then check the engine oil level with a dipstick.

Screw on the oil filler cap.

Attention: It is recommended to first drink 1/2 liter less engine oil, start and warm up the engine, and after a few minutes check the oil level and top up if necessary. Excess filled oil must be sucked off, otherwise the engine seals or the catalytic converter can be damaged.

After a test drive, check the oil drain plug and oil filter seal for leaks and, if necessary, carefully tighten the seals.

Stop the engine warmed up to operating temperature and after about 2 minutes check the oil level again and, if necessary, correct the level.

The difference between the oil volumes in the engine sump between the MIN and MAX marks on the oil level indicator is approximately 0.5 to 1.0 liters. The engine oil level should always be between these marks.

Attention: Never drink engine oil above the upper mark MAX. Too much engine oil during operation can damage the catalytic converter or engine seals.

In order to be able to punch control the operating conditions of the engine, when changing the oil, it is always necessary to use new oil of the same type and, if possible, the same brand. Therefore, it is advisable to attach a plate to the engine at each oil change, on which to indicate the brand and viscosity of the filled oil.

Alternating indiscriminately the use of different types of oils adversely affects the operation of the engine. Engine oils of the same type, but different brands, should not be mixed if possible. Engine oils of the same type and the same brand, but of different viscosities, can, if necessary, be topped up immediately during the off-season.
