Always change engine oil and oil filter at the same time

            0

The oil in all Focus engines is changed every 15,000 km. But if you drive your Focus mainly for long distances, then you can safely extend this interval by about 5,000 km. If you drive exclusively in the city or for short distances, then it makes sense to change the oil earlier. The tested interval in changing the oil in winter is already after 6000 km or after six months.

Oil change - when should you do it yourself?

It's worth doing the work yourself when you're using an inexpensive, prescribed specification oil bought from a hardware store, department store, or gas station. Traditional oil change (draining the oil from the crankcase, replacing the filter, disposing of the oil at the collection point) you must raise your Focus. It is faster and cleaner to change the oil by self-service, including a suction device at a gas station.

But this method has its drawbacks: the dirt remains in the crankcase, and without changing the oil filter at the same time, the new engine oil is thrown away. It is most convenient to change the oil in a specialized workshop. Of course, the specialist does this job properly: as a rule, he uses only expensive grades of oil and then also credits you with the disposal of used oil and oil filter. However, the order may pay off. Calculate ahead. Often, workshops will also change when you bring your own oil and filter.

The oil level does not always have to be at the maximum: the way it fluctuates between MIN and MAX. The maximum additional quantity between the marks is 0.75 liters for petrol and 1.5 liters for diesel engines

Stages of work

Warm up the engine oil 8 while driving. This is important, only then the dirt particles will take the form of a suspension.

Raise the vehicle horizontally on a level surface

Substitute a flat tray, bowl or cut plastic canister of an appropriate container from under the oil.

Open the oil drain plug with a bent wrench. Drain the used oil. Be careful when unscrewing the screw plug - hot oil shoots out in a powerful jet from the oil pan into the receiving container (risk of scalding!). Only tighten the screw plug with a new O-ring.

You will find the oil drain plug at the rear in the direction of travel on the crankcase. Drain only hot engine oil, then dirt will not remain in the oil pan.

Empty the old oil pan and place under the engine (in the area of the oil filter. Loosen the oil filter with the special tool. If it is not there, insert a screwdriver through the metal case (be careful: you can scald - hot oil flows out) and unscrew. Empty the filter above the collecting container and dispose of as special waste.

Lubricate the O-ring of the new oil filter with a thin film of oil, or lightly coat with grease. Position the filter straight and tighten by hand. ©Fill in the prescribed amount of oil (see table on this page). Run the engine briefly at idle. The oil pressure warning light will only go out when the new oil filter is full

Check the oil filter and oil drain plug for leaks. Put the car on wheels again.

Big help: the tension band is cheaper than a special oil filter wrench and besides. suitable for all types of filters. However, if you cannot unscrew the filter, use a crutch to drive a sturdy screwdriver into the cartridge and unscrew it.

Proper disposal of used oil

Take the used oil to your oil dealer. All points of sale are required to dispose of used oil in the same quantity as they sell fresh oil. In addition, you can also take the used oil, along with the oil filter and oily rags, to a used oil collection point. Addresses can be found in the district administration or in the automobile club.

Oil stains «sweating» on the engine

Small oil stains «sweating» under the hood Focus should not bother you seriously: engine oil with strong temperature fluctuations - through the pores of the gasket and past the sealing surfaces of the body - can find its way out.

The situation is different if large oil stains expand in the engine compartment or under a parked car. Immediately rush in search of larger places of ugechka, most often they entail damage. It's best to check your engine after washing it, then test driving it, and then drain the source of the oil leak.
