Changing engine oil and filter

            0

Frequent engine oil changes and filter changes are the most important part of maintenance. Old motor oil contains dissolved particles and contaminants, which leads to premature engine wear.

Before changing the oil, it is necessary to warm up the engine to operating temperature, as this significantly increases the fluidity of the oil and contributes to the complete removal of old oil from the engine. Be careful when draining the oil, as the oil escaping is hot. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on stands Remove the right front wheel to access the oil filter.

Place a container for the drained oil under the drain plug, then unscrew the plug (see fig. 1.6. 1.7).

Allow the used engine oil to drain for a while. As the oil drains, gradually move the container towards the oil stream.

Clean the drain plug with a clean rag. Remove the old O-ring from the plug and install a new one. Clean the plug location on the pallet. Screw the drain plug back into place.

To replace the filter, place a container under the oil filter.

Unscrew the used filter with a special oil filter wrench (see fig. 1.8).

Clean the connection surface, lubricate the rubber seal with fresh oil and screw in a new filter.

Screw in the oil filter by hand until the rubber gasket touches the engine. then tighten the filter by hand 3/4 turn (according to the instructions for its installation, attached to the filter).

Fill in fresh oil through the oil filler neck located in the cylinder head cover, observing the correct level (see fig. 1.9).

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check for leaks around the oil filter and oil pan drain plug.

Attention. After starting the engine, the oil pressure indicator light will be on for a while until the pump pumps fresh oil into the line.

Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the engine oil to drain into the oil pan, then check the oil level again and top up if necessary.

Attention. If metal chips are present in used engine oil, this usually indicates wear on the crankshaft main or connecting rod bearings.

Engine oil volume corresponding to the difference between the marks "MAX" And "MIN" on the oil level indicator, is approximately 0.5-1.0 liters.

Attention. It is strictly forbidden to pour oil above the mark "MAX". Overflowing oil leads to failure of the crankshaft seals and catalyst.

Attention. When changing oil, it is advisable to use engine oil of the same type and brand. It is advisable not to mix oils of different brands (topping up or replacing). When changing the type and brand of oil, it is necessary to flush the engine with a special agent that is added to the oil before changing it. Oils of the same type and brand, but of different viscosities, can be mixed without restriction.
