Changing engine oil and oil filter

PROCEDURE
  1. First, you should drive so that the oil is warmed up. Only in this case the dirt particles «rise» from the oil pan and go into the receiving bath.
  2. Raise the car, while it should be in a horizontal position.
  3. Place a large enough receiving container, a bowl, or a cut plastic oil container under the drain hole.
  4. Unscrew the oil drain plug with a spanner wrench - this will save the plug head - and drain the used oil. When unscrewing, be careful - hot oil, like water, flows out of the oil sump (scalding hazard). The oil drain screw is in principle only fitted with a new O-ring.

Stone protection: The oil drain plug is positioned in the direction of travel under the oil sump. If only warm engine oil is drained, no oil sludge remains in the oil pan either.
  5. Empty the collecting container and move to the oil filter area under the engine. In Duratec-VE, the filter is best released with a tie-down wrench. If it is missing, then «knock» a sturdy screwdriver on a metal case (Caution: risk of scalding - hot oil drips) and use it then as a collar. Four-cylinder Mondeos have a filter cartridge that pulls out of the filter housing. Before disposing of the filter as special waste, it should also be freed from used oil by draining it into a receiving container.

«Is hidden» in the oil filter housing: filter cartridge.

    1 - Gasket,
    2 - Hydraulic switch,
    3 - Oil filter housing,
    4 - Oil filter,
    5 - O-ring,
    6 - Oil filter cover.

  6. Before screwing on (insert) new filter, lightly lubricate the O-ring and tighten the filter firmly.
  7. Fill in the required amount of oil (see table) and briefly start the engine (the car is standing still). As soon as the oil pressure warning light goes out, the oil filter is full.
  8. Check the oil filter and oil drain plug for leaks.
  9. Put the car back on wheels.
