Visual control of the tightness of the cooling system

            0

Check coolant hoses for porosity by compressing and bending them, replace hardened hoses.

The hoses must be put on the connecting fittings to the end.

Check the tightness of the hose clamps. If necessary, install new clamps that are tightened with screws instead of the previously used terminal clamps.

Check expansion tank cap seal for damage.

If the coolant level often drops and it is not possible to determine the leakage points, then it is necessary to check the cooling system with a warm engine. To do this, warm up the engine and then idle until the fan turns on. Check if coolant is escaping in the area of the coolant pump.

Obvious loss of coolant and/or presence of oil in the coolant, as well as white exhaust gas when the engine is warm, indicate a defective cylinder head gasket.

Attention: Finding a leak is sometimes very difficult. In this case, it is recommended to check the cooling system under pressure, see chapter "Checking the cooling system for leaks". At the same time, the overpressure valve in the cap of the expansion tank can also be checked.
