Fuel pressure control

1 - vacuum pipe, 2 - upper housing, 3 - spring, 4 - diaphragm, 5 - valve, 6 - lower housing, 7 - flange, 8 - gasket

Engine OHC and V6 2.8 in.3

1. Remove ground wire from battery.

2. On V6 engines, disconnect the high voltage wires from the fuel pressure regulator bracket.

3. Place an appropriate container under the fuel pressure regulator and disconnect the fuel return pipe (arrow).

4. Disconnect the vacuum tube from the regulator (arrow).

5. Loosen the fuel coupling nut and relieve the pressure in the fuel system.

6. unscrew the nut (arrow) from the base of the regulator and remove the regulator.

7. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal.

DOHC engine

8. Remove ground wire from battery.

9. Slowly loosen the fuel rail fuel supply connection to relieve pressure in the fuel system.

10. Disconnect fuel return hose (indicated by an arrow) from the pressure regulator.

11. Disconnect the vacuum tube from the top of the regulator.

12. Unscrew the two fixing bolts and remove the regulator from the fuel line together with the O-ring.

13. Install a new o-ring on the regulator, after lubricating it with engine oil.

14. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Engines V6, 2.4 and 2.9 dm3

15. Remove ground wire from battery.

16. Slowly loosen the fuel rail fuel supply connection to relieve pressure in the fuel system.

17. On engines with an aluminum fuel rail and a late model fuel pressure regulator, remove the fuel return pipe retaining clamp from the top of the regulator.

18. Place an appropriate container under the fuel pressure regulator and disconnect the fuel return hose (indicated by an arrow) and a vacuum tube from the fuel pressure regulator.

19. Unscrew and remove the regulator from the fuel line.

20. Installation is made in sequence, return to removal. Lubricate the sealing ring with silicone grease. Turn on the ignition 5 times without turning on the engine starter to increase the pressure in the fuel system.
