1. The "inertia" switch, which cuts off the fuel supply to the engine in the event of a collision, provides a simple and convenient means of relieving pressure before working on the injection system. If your car has a sedan body type, open the trunk lid - the inertia switch is located underneath it (see the picture). If it is not there, open the driver's door and look for it on the door hinge bracket above the left wheel housing. If the body type is a "station wagon", the switch is on the lower rear corner pillar of the booster.

2. Locate the two nuts with the electrical wire running between them. Unscrew them both and pull out the fuel system inertia switch.
3. There are two ways to open the fuel pump electrical circuit. Either pull out the inertia switch electrical connector or shake the switch vigorously (by knocking on the bottom of the trunk, you can open the circuit).
4. Start the engine and let it run until the fuel is completely used up.
5. The fuel pressure has now dropped. When you are finished, simply plug the connector back into the switch, or if you tapped it to break the circuit, reset it by pressing the square button.
6. Replace the inertia switch and tighten the two mounting nuts securely.
Only for vehicles with EFI system
7. Fuel pressure can be released through the Schrader valve installed on the fuel line, but for this you need to have a Ford fuel pressure sensor T80L - 9974 - B (or similar) and an adapter T85L - 9974 - A.
Warning: Do not attempt to work on the Schrader valve. Without first installing the sensor, a jet of fuel under high pressure may escape.
Warning: There will always be some residual pressure and fuel leaks in the system. This can be relieved by removing the gas cap. Have a rag and small container handy to catch the fuel when disconnecting valves, fittings, etc.
