Electrical connections of the upgraded Pierburg 2V carburetor fitted to the late 1.8 dm³ engines
1 - Wiring harness, 2 - Secondary chamber flap control device vacuum relief valve, 3 - Ground, 4 - Ignition coil initial connection
Engines from September 1986 onwards are fitted with a modified carburetor which incorporates a secondary throttle pull-back diaphragm to reduce fuel consumption. If a modified carburetor is to be fitted to an earlier model, always use a new gasket and perform the following steps:
- connect the connector with a special cable;
- disconnect the positive cable from the ignition coil and connect the terminals of the new cable to the positive terminal of the coil and the disconnected positive potential wire;
- connect the ground contact of the braid to one of the ignition coil mounting screws.
