Replacing the V-belt (Focus Turnier 1)

In Focus engines, the tension of the poly V-belt is maintained by an automatic tensioner. Therefore, you do not have to worry about the belt tension. But you should take a look at the tension roller from time to time. If nothing unusual catches your eye when the engine is stationary, start the engine and watch the roller movement; it should swing slightly, for example when the air conditioning system is turned on (if equipped) or when the engine speed increases rapidly. If not, then the belt pulley or shaft may be bent, or the belt pulley is not round, or the damping mechanism is damaged. Severe belt wear (uneven deep grooves) causes the tension roller to constantly swing. To find out the cause, first replace the drive belt. Make sure that the new belt has the same designation.

Dismantling

Apply the handbrake. Raise the front of the car securely.

Remove the drive belt splash guard.

Turn tension roller 1 clockwise.

Important: In vehicles with a 1.4 or 1.6 litre engine and air conditioning, turn the tension roller counter-clockwise.

Remove drive belt 2.



Remove the drive belt 2. 1 Tension roller.

Installation

Mount all structural elements in the reverse order. Tighten the clamping bolt on the belt pulley by hand (approx. 5-6 Nm).
