V-belt replacement

In Focus engines, the tension of the V-ribbed belt is supported by an automatic tensioner. Therefore, you do not have to worry about belt tension. But the tension roller needs to be looked at from time to time. If nothing unusual catches your eye at rest, start the engine and follow the movement of the roller, it should sway slightly, for example, when turning on the air conditioner (if she is) or with a rapid increase in engine speed. If not, then the belt pulley or shaft may be bent, or the belt pulley is not round, or the damping mechanism may be damaged. Severe belt wear (uneven deep furrows) cause the tension roller to swing constantly. To find out the cause, first replace the drive belt. Make sure the new belt has the same designation.

Dismantling

Engage the handbrake. Raise the front of the vehicle securely.

Remove the drive belt mudguard.

Turn the tension roller 1 clockwise.

Important: in vehicles with an engine displacement of 1.4 or 1.6 liters and air conditioning, turn the tensioner roller counterclockwise.

Installation

Mount all structural elements in reverse order. Tighten the clamp bolt on the belt pulley by hand (about 5-6 Nm).
