If despite the correct level of acid. the battery seems to be weak, then check the charging status with a hydrometer. Hydrometers check the concentration of electrolyte in the battery fluid. Of course, you can check the battery with a multimeter (indication accuracy±0.02 V): The state of charge of the battery is determined based on the measured voltage.

Acid concentration measurement

Only test after the battery has rested for at least 6 hours.

Unscrew or wring out the plug in the battery.

Hold the measuring instrument vertically. Suck out enough acid from the accumulator so that the hydrometer's measuring rod floats freely in it.

Voltage measurement

If the last charging process took place less than six hours ago, turn on the fog lights for about 30 seconds. They will smooth out possible voltage peaks.

After four or five minutes, measure the voltage on the battery. Switch off all current consumers during the measurement.

Using a hydrometer, the concentration of acid in each individual cell is measured. To measure, suck out enough battery acid with a hydrometer lowered vertically so that the float floats freely. If the battery is in order, then the results of measurements in individual cells are almost the same.

Accurately measure the battery voltage with a multimeter. At a rest voltage below 12.3 V, the battery must be charged.
